Filming Locations in Mexico
Mexico has always been a top destination for film production, TV shows and documentaries of various kinds. There is a wide variety of filming locations in Mexico ranging from modern to classic settings and a range of natural backdrops
Beaches
Mexico has beaches at the Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of México and Gulf of California. Most beaches will have a city with a resort area, so access, lodging, transportation and other services pose no problem for a production in the region. Virgin or rural beaches are a short drive distance from any coastal city.
Archaeological Sites
Mexico was home of different civilizations for more than 20,000 years. The archaeological sites are protected by the National Anthropological and History Institute, and access for film and photo production is restricted and sometimes unavailable. Production in these sites has to be planned in advance.
Deserts
Part of all the states of Northern Mexico have a desert area. States like Baja, Chihuahua, Sonora and Durango are the most popular. Durango was a hot spot for western movie productions during the 50s and 60s and still has many exterior sets and natural locations in use today.
Cities
In Mexico City you’ll find colonial buildings, temples, contemporary skyscrapers, urban markets, stadiums, theatres, highways, parks and any other urban setting you may need. There are other cities like Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Puebla, Merida, Ciudad Juárez and León, to name a few.
Mountains
Mexico has three main mountain ranges offering magnificent locations including: the Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl and Nevado de Toluca, volcanoes in the State of Mexico and Puebla; the Huasteca in Nuevo León and San Luis Potosí; the Copper Canyon in Chihuahua; and the Sumidero Canyon in Chiapas.
Lakes and Rivers
In Mexico you can find lakes, rivers, waterfalls, creeks, swamps and cenotes. All the lakes in Mexico vary from dark green water to clear blue, from deep to shallow, some of them are close to a city, to the mountains or a beach.
